Hanmi Gallery is pleased to announce the exhibition of ‘The Artist Naked & Blurred’, by cross discipline artist Gaynor O’Flynn. Working across disciplines : sound, music, movement, words, paint, film & technology to create unique interactive multi media performances, installations & limited edition work. The unique work combines video art, limited edition prints, vinyl & art book. Her belief in the interconnected nature of all is at the core of her life & practice. Believing that art produced from a place of spontaneity & compassion has the power to open our hearts & minds to our true nature. Now the work that evolved through Gaynor’s research into Tibetan Buddhist teachings on sound, mind & consciousness is exhibited for the first time in a gallery context in this solo show.

 

• Spreading over three floors and being the last of Hanmi Gallery’s interim programs it is sure to be a show to be remembered.
• Gaynor O’Flynn, described, as “that conscious cathartic voice” by the BBC, will be also be performing at the private view on the 11th April.

Gaynor O’Flynn : Biography

 

Gaynor is an independent artist who works in music, film, performance & installation art.

 

Working across disciplines : sound, music, movement, words, paint, film & technology to create unique interactive multi media performances, installations & limited edition work.

 

Her belief in the interconnected nature of all is at the core of her life & practice. Believing that art produced from a place of spontaneity & compassion has the power to open our hearts & minds to our true nature.

 

Gaynor’s eclectic career started on the revolutionary music show The Tube. Her directorial debut was the first film ever to be shown on MTV Europe. She directed for Granada with Factory legend Anthony H. Wilson, on US show Entertainment Tonite, concerts from Wembley to G Mex & promos for U2. Working with many brilliant artists including The Verve, New Order, PJ Harvey & Bjork. After a stint directing Lonely Planet she ended up in the Himalayas, worked for the Dalai Lama & found her heart, mind and voice.

 

In 2000 she set up her own independent company beinghuman & filmed the first beinghuman film in the Himalayas, Kalachakra. In 2001 she performed at venues as diverse as Glastonbury Festival & The Royal Geographical Society & performed with Ninja Tune’s Sounds From The Ground. In 2002 her first solo tour of 6 major UK cities established her as a solo artist in her own right. In 2003 she won a Women In Music Award, started the beinghuman nights & performed extensively from Salisbury Festival to Hackney Empire.

 

In 2004 Gaynor created the first beinghuman festival working with many world class artists including double Grammy nominated 1 Giant Leap. She produced Senegalese kora maestro Sadio Cissokho’s debut album & remixed Lee Scratch Perry’s classic track “War In a Babylon”. In 2005 she won an Arts Council Award & was mentored by Rob Bozas, who runs Peter Gabriel’s company, Realworld.

She then took up the opportunity of being artist in residence at the prestigious members club Babington (Soho) House.

 

In 2006 she held her first major exhibition in Red Gate Gallery, London quickly followed by Mile End Art Pavillion, London.

 

The following year she released the CD ‘who am i?’ to critical acclaim & played 22 stages at Glastonbury Festival in one weekend, a Glastonbury record!

 

In 2011 Gaynor was selected for Medea Electronique, an art residency in association with the Onassis Cultural Centre, Athens. In the same year she performed her multi media work, The Artist Naked & Blurred at Kinetica Art Fair, Folly For A Flyover, Bo Lee Gallery & British Art Week.

 

In 2012 she performed her latest piece, ‘breath’ at Kinetica Art Fair and won a place as a creative delegate at Tipping Point a major conference to discuss the scientific & creative challenges re the environment & climate change.

 

Most recently she was the British curator of the Katmandu International Art Fair 2012 working with Turner Prize winner Richard Long, David Nash OBE, Chris Drury & created & performed two major multi media works.
