Rebecca Byrne

Rebecca Byrne explores a space between personal narrative and the uncanny in a quest to balance truth with fiction. Her work begins with a desire to inspire a feeling of familiarity followed closely by a sense that this place cannot actually be known; the images of a fractured reality present a series of clues to a particular story but provide no answer. Rebecca Byrne uses architectural space as a starting point.  By layering paint and stitching, she endeavours to create a dissonance that emphasises a sense of uncertainty about the painting, leaving it open to multiple readings.

Rebecca is from Chicago and currently living and working in London, UK. Her work has been shown recently in the Dianich Gallery, Vermont, USA, The Griffin Art Prize 2012, The Griffin Gallery, London and The Art Cabin, Group Show with George Little and Soo Eun Baik, London.
