Joey Holder

Joey Holder’s work stretches over a variety of contemporary mediums, from sculpture and video works, to digital manipulations. Her online presence continues her contemporary perspective, and her use of social media and personal blogs to display digital works places her truly within the 21st century. These pieces are concerned primarily with notions of the artificial and the natural, and the continuing changes of attitudes and definitions regarding these topics, and the role of art within this. By contrasting organic forms, or their digital recreations, with a series of abstractions, Holder reveals pure hyper-aestheticisation, allowing for a new and decidedly contemporary response to romantic deliberation of nature.

Joey Holder received BA in Fine Art Painting from Kingston University and an MFA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths College in 2010. Recent shows include ‘M U T A G E N’ at the ASC Gallery London, ‘I Did it my Way’ at the Ceiling Space, China, ‘Westworld’ at xero, kline and coma, ‘Diagrammatic Form’ at Banner Repeater, ‘Thrall’dom’ at LIMAZULU and a solo presentation ‘Digital Baroque’ at Eight, all in London. In 2009 her work was featured in ‘Impossible Exchange’ for Frieze Projects, and in the same year she was shortlisted for the Red Mansion Art Prize.
