Bernd Halbherr

Halbherr was born in 1964, in the city of Ulm in Southern Germany. Ulm, also the birthplace of Albert Einstein, is known for its reputation in science. Traces of links to science can be found in Halbherr’s artworks. The artist had an early career of being trained and working as a goldsmith before he began studying art in Nuremburg, and soon entered the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts, graduating with a Masters degree in Fine Arts. His degree was carried out under the supervision of artist Klaus Rinke, and during his time as a student he also met with other professionals in the field such as Gunther Uecker and Marksu Luepertz. Later on, Halbherr received the DAAD scholarship and spent some time in Jerusalem, Israel.

 

The artist debuted in South Korea in the Media City Biennale 2000. He moved to Korea a few years later and has remained active as an artist in the country until present day. He has given lectures and seminars in various universities, including Ehwa Women’s University and Hongik University. He is currently a professor at Chung-Ang University, in the sculpture department. He has held solo exhibitions in Korea, Japan and Germany, as well as participating in various group exhibitions in Korea, Taiwan, France and Germany over the years of his artistic career.

 

Halbherr’s works are held public collections, including Kunstmuseum im Ehrenhof, Duesseldorf; Sammlung Herman, Karlsruhe; and Sammlung Stoschek, Duesseldorf in Germany; and private collections around the world including Seoul, Berlin, Duesseldorf, Ulm, Aachen, Moenchengladbach, Munich and Stuttgart.
