Work and Live in London

I started my work, having an interest in surroundings. I have come to think about something that could be so easily forgotten because it is too routine.  Born and grown in a city, I felt my surroundings were getting so meaningless and unformed that I began to dream of departing to other worlds. However, such dreaming of deviation awakened me to the importance of my daily routine life. Desire seems never satisfied just like you miss a clear sunny day during rainy season, but a rainy day in hot and humid days. Rather, I have realized that I can find the answer to the puzzle within myself.  Therefore, I would try to demonstrate funs and meanings hidden in daily life, which I can find by changing my way of thinking and looking at the routines. In a city, I feel everything is organized and materialized like skyscrapers, cars, signboards and asphalt-paved roads. But, I know there are still many traces of nature in there. Although it feels like we are getting distant from nature, living a dry and repeated city life from morning to evening, we are still surrounded by many small things of nature.

Recently I became interested in a plywood and have been using it for my works. It is one of the most accessible materials for construction, interior work, furniture. One trace of nature is found on its surface pattern made by chance in the process of production. Its natural pattern is beautiful enough to be used for interior designs or furniture and strong enough to bulid structures. It is used in many areas. Although the plywood are produced on a large scale, they still keeps regularity and softness of nature on them. The pattern resembles that of running water, blowing wind, or flaming fire. I would maximize the merit and seek to unveil the unique quality of daily life and the particularity of the ordinary moment that often appear somewhat boring and tedious by the re-staging of ordinary objects. My work is to share this pleasurable moment of everyday single event people continuously encounter all day, which is easily ignored because it’s too familiar and trivial.
