The gallery line-up for next year’s Art14 fair has been announced, with 172 galleries participating in total. The fair is to take more of an international approach, and this year will include galleries from 38 different countries.

The annual fair launched in March this year with Art13, and aimed to have a global outlook from the offset. As a result, this year it has attracted an even greater number of overseas galleries than last year, which saw 30 countries represented. Art14’s director Stephanie Dieckvoss spoke to ARTINFO UK: “there is a burgeoning of new art scenes across the globe and the rise of artists and galleries from the Middle East, from Africa, and especially from South East Asia,” she explained, “but then you have very established art scenes in, for example, South Korea and Taiwan which people just don’t hear very much about here.” This year the gallery list includes Seoul-based Hakgojae Gallery, Artspace Dubai, Art Chowk from Karachi, and Pearl Lam Gallery, which has branches in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Singapore.

There will also be a focus on less established artists and galleries in two sections: Emerge, which is a new addition to the fair, and London First. There will be 15 galleries in the Emerge section, and 16 in London First. Dieckvoss explained: “[Emerge] is all about the idea of emerging – be it emerging galleries, emerging artists, emerging territories, or even emerging media.” London First, similarly, is an area dedicated to galleries in their first year of business. Dieckvoss told ARTINFO UK that this ensures fresh talent is always shown, as galleries can only qualify for this section once. She reiterated: “I am very keen to support young emerging galleries and young artists who are starting out in their careers.”

As well as significant representation from overseas, there are to be several London galleries that specialise in work from specific overseas regions. For example, Battersea-based Hua Gallery shows only contemporary Chinese art and will be exhibiting in the main fair. Hanmi Gallery, who also show Asian art in their London space, will have a stand in Emerge.
